Instead of having the old fashion website structure such as Home, About Us, Products, Services and Contact pages, you should wow your visitors with compelling navigation links for high sales conversion.

Keyword research is simply finding the niche about your business, products or services of what people type to search for similar websites like yours in search engine.

Unless you are totally had no idea of what you are going to do, you certainly have at least a keyword that best describe your business area. For example, you might sell used pianos, running a bakery shop, or you are a travel agent, martial artist, business coach and so on.

Using Google Keyword Tool

With your generic keyword in mind, perform keyword research using the free Google Keyword Tool.

Let’s take the example that you are selling used piano with the generic keyword “piano”.

Keyword research

Enter “piano” in the search box to search. You can click on the Advance Options to filter search results for different location and language.

You will see a list of Keyword Ideas appear. Click on Global Monthly Searches to sort the list in descending order with the highest searches number on the top.

You will see “music” with some 610,000,000 searches while “piano” has 55,600,000. The number might differ now as compare to the time this article was written.

Don’t get overwhelm with such high numbers because they may not accurate but you can use them for relative comparison. Also, people search for “music” may be looking for anything such as MP3, music instrument or music artists. Therefore, “music” is not the keyword that you should consider.

Finding Relevant Keyword

Scroll down the list to find more keywords that are relevant to “piano” and related to your business. You will find more specific keywords like below:

Creating Your Content Structure

At instance, you can create website structure like below:
Website structure for used piano

From Home page, you create main navigation links to piano brands that you carry as well as sections that list all used pianos or pianos for sale. You can also create articles that teach people important things that they have to check when buying a used piano.

It is important that you use the keyword as your link title because those are what most people looking for.

To create sub pages for main navigation, you can then search further for “yamaha piano”. You will find “yamaha disklavier”, “yamaha baby grand”, “yamaha digital pianos”, “yamaha electronic piano” and so on. These are keywords that will give you idea about your sub pages.

In Summary

You should perform keyword research to before you decide your website content structure. If you get lots of content under the structure, you should have the advantage to rank higher in search engines and get tonnes of free traffic from them.
